The problem

Production was recorded on paper and entered at the end of the week. Raw material consumption was inferred from stock movements, so wastage and yield were guesses and costing a finished item was impossible to do accurately.

What we built

We built a bill of materials per product with production runs that issue materials and receive finished goods as recorded transactions. Actual consumption is compared against the BOM, so variance is visible per run rather than per month.
